22nd Annual Invitational Athletics Championships

More than 700 disabled children from over 30 schools at the 22
nd annual Children’s Athletic Championships saw teachers, carers, mums and dads working harder than ever to get competitors to each event due to the tight schedule. Want to to go to the gallery -
Click hereThis event as always is often the only major sporting interaction for kids with disabilities from the schools within the Gold Coast region.
Co-ordinated again by Gold Coast Recreation and Sport, the annual day this year enjoyed assistance from Regent Taxis and its staff, kids from Emmanuel College, Guardian Angels, Gold Coast Institute of TAFE, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and countless volunteers.
Regent Taxis as mentioned earlier is in its 22nd year of sponsorship for the annual event that sees the Gold Coast Taxi Company donate its time, resources and Sponsorship dollars that helps not only pay for the event but brings the competitors together by donating the transport to and from the event.
After several years of support, Emmanuel College maths teacher Barry Sanders asks his year 10 students to donate their time and attend to the need of the competitors. The goals for the day is not only to give students an opportunity to help people with disabilities but to show students that giving back to the community is an important part of life.
Guardian Angels year 7 students also contribute to the day by assisting with running events each year.
Students from the Gold Coast Institute of TAFE use the event as a part of the program of education and also as a reality check.
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, who is in their 3rd year of support for the event, also contributes by entertaining the kids between events with an impressive interactive display of reptiles from the park.
Gold Coast Recreation and Sport do a fantastic job organising media exposure, organising the events and programs plus they co-ordinate and run the day. This is the pinnacle event on the calendar for the local incorporation that is also in their 22
